Move over Snapchat and Instagram, LinkedIn stories are finally here.
Don’t start taking selfies with your cat just yet though, LinkedIn stories will have a much more professional vibe.
Beta testing of stories has just rolled out in Australia, and this new feature is a fantastic way for you to engage with your network, all while cementing your position as a thought leader in your industry.
Australia is the first country in the Asia Pacific region to roll out the feature, giving us a great headstart to amplify our personal brand and post quality content.
About LinkedIn Stories
If you’re on Facebook, Instagram, or Snapchat, you’re probably already well-across how stories work.
The layout on LinkedIn is pretty similar, with the ability to edit with text and stickers, stories will be available for your connections and followers to view for 24 hours. You can also tag people in your stories and they can re-share the stories on their accounts.
Unfortunately, unlike other channels, the only way you can view stories is through the top story bar, i.e. if you go to someone’s profile on LinkedIn, you currently can’t tell if they have any live stories that can be watched.
This feature couldn’t come at a better time.
With so many of us separated from our professional networks and working from home, this new feature is a great way to stay in touch and connected through 20-second videos.
It goes without saying, the type of content you should post on your LinkedIn story will be very different from the type of content you post to your Snapchat story.
Keep those late-night red wine selfies for your Instagram, and maintain your professionalism on LinkedIn.
The content might only be available for 24 hours, but that doesn’t mean people will be quick to forget any mishaps.
As a general rule of thumb, don’t post anything you wouldn’t want your boss to see.
Using LinkedIn Stories To Create Your Personal Brand
As a LinkedIn thought leader you should be constantly asking yourself how can you add value to your network? How can you post pieces that will inspire, educate, and provoke discussion amongst your connections?
The same thoughts can be applied to LinkedIn stories!
Why not use the feature to do fun quick tours of your working space? Inspiring others with your top-notch #WFH setup.
Maybe you can use the feature to humblebrag about your overly ambitious morning routine that includes at 5 am wake up call and 45-minute gym session?
You can help your network by sharing productivity tips or even share your thoughts on big industry news.
The fact that stories only stay up for 24 hours means you’ll be able to keep your page relevant with your finger on the pulse, without worrying about an overcrowded feed.
Another engaging way to utilise the feature will be with behind the scene tours or sneak peeks at exciting projects you’re working on that you want to build excitement around.
You’ll be able to see who has viewed your stories, and people will be able to see when you’ve viewed theirs, so, something you might want to keep in mind if you’re snooping around.
